TRAFFIC-AWARE ENERGY EFFICIENT VM MIGRATIONS

Abstract
Cloud computing is the evolving field with new generation technologies to provide state-of-theart
services to customers and organizations situated worldwide. The data centers in the network of servers are
the backbone of the Cloud computing environment with a huge capacity of processing and data storage.
Nowadays, data centers are in the limelight for consuming the large amount of energy to support cloud
computing services throughout the world. Although several techniques have been implemented till now to
minimize the energy wastage and network cost in data centres, however, optimization of designed policies is
still very much required. Virtualization approach is used to consolidate the server workload for utilization of
computing resources. In this paper, the evolutionary algorithm is used with VM migrations during placement for
energy optimization alongside minimization of traffic overhead cost. Thereafter, scalability and performance
test was conducted to check the flexibility of the algorithm. In addition to this, analysis was carried out to verify
the impact of VM migrations on Quality of Service with specific parameters computed in prior study.
