OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUES BASED HYBRID RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS: A REVIEW

Abstract
The characteristics of power produced from photovoltaic (PV) and wind systems are based on the weather condition. These systems are unreliable without sufficient capacity storage devices like batteries or back-up system like conventional diesel generators. The reliability of the system significantly increases when two systems are hybridized with the provision of storage device. To overcome the drawback of intermittency, special design considerations should be taken into account. These additional design considerations increases the overall cost of the renewable energy systems. Therefore the optimization of the Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) is needed in various domains like sizing of system component, energy management, unpredicted weather conditions, dispatch of excess energy and energy storage because these are important in order to reduce system cost and increase reliability. This paper presents a review of recent literature on application of optimization tools and control strategies specially suited for minimization of cost and maximization of reliability.
