COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN THE MONTH OF DEVOTION AND MUTUAL COOPERATION (MDMC): A REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Abstract
The month of devotion and mutual cooperation (MDMC) was initiated by govenrment in preserving mutual cooperation value and fostering regional development. Community participation is one of the most important indicator of regional development programs. This research described activities, factors, and promotion of community participation in MDMC which held in Sampangan urban village. This study uses qualitative data collection methods, namely interviews, documentation, and observation. The data analysis technique used is an interactive model with data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. MDMC in Sampangan Village was in accordance with government guidelines for implementing MDMC. Community enthusiastically participated in activities, that have been agreed upon, by sharing their thoughts, energy, money, and working tools. The high level of community participation was determined by modeling, communication, social punishment, age, and harmony/togetherness. In addition, some efforts has been carried out to foster community participation such as socializing the program, adjusting activities to the needs of the community, pointing government as facilitator, and motivating and directing the community to always help actively.
