A VARIATIONAL APPROACH FOR MULTIFOCUS IMAGE FUSION IN DCT DOMAIN

Abstract
Image fusion is a procedure which involves the extraction of data and specific features from two
or more than two input images and then combining these images into a distinct picture that contains all the
significant information. The proposed methods of image fusion in DCT method are very appropriate and prove
to be time-saving in real-time practice. The other existing methods in DCT domain produce low quality fused
output image because of the various side-effects of their methods. This research article presents a simple and
productive image fusion technique by making use of improved variance criteria. The method proposed in this
article makes use of the enhanced input images. The input images are enhanced using guided filter methods and
the anisotropic diffusion. The proposed algorithm is conducted with grayscale multi -focus pictures and
computing the performance of the planned technique by comparing it to the well recognized methods that
produce results which determines the improved quality of the final image.
