THE ROLE OF UNIVERSITY IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACHIEVING KINGDOM VISION 2030 IN SAUDI ARABIA

Ghazala Muteeb, BhawnaDhupia.

Abstract
Universities play a significant role in shaping the future and development of a nation. The role of
universities in achieving Saudi Vision 2030 is of immense importance, especially so in this era of transition for
Saudi Arabia. We identified the job oriented aims, aspirations and expectations of young graduating citizens,
mainly females, of Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) in Wadi Dawaser and suggested ways to
improve upon the role being played by the university. A cross sectional survey was administered during this study.
The survey was for the future jobseekers- the final year university students from PSAU. The survey was
completed within 6 months, from September 2017 to February 2018. Quantitative approach was utilized to recruit
260 final year students. The job preferences of students was thoroughly analyzed and so were their mental blocks
towards private sector jobs and expectations from their university. The work concludes by elucidating remedial
measures that the university needs to adopt to fulfill aspirations of their students and realize Vision 2030. We
believe that itís the first study which records and presents the aspirations of the female job seekers in Saudi
Arabia.

Key words: Saudi Arabia, Saudi Vision 2030, Nationalization, Quota, Private sector, Public Sector, Citizen, Expatriate, Labor market, Unemployment.
