BIOMETRIC EVALUATION OF ALLELOPATHIC POTENTIAL OF LANTANA CAMARA L. ON MIMOSA SEEDS

Abstract
In wild state, exotic and invasion weeds affect the physiological activities of other weeds. An
analysis was performed to observe the allelopathic potential of the exotic and invasive weed Lantana camera
using the seeds of other weeds (Mimosa pudica). Behaviour of leaf extracts and leaf leachates of
Lantana camera was observed on the seed germination and biochemical changes of Mimosa pudica. The
percentage germination, seed viability, germination speed, and field emergence index as well as influence of
percentage inhibition of seed germination and extension of T50 values of Mimosa pudica seeds were reduced.
Through biometric evaluation it has been analysed that the carbohydrate, protein, DNA and RNA levels along
with dehydrogenase, peroxidase, catalase enzymes activities were reduced considerably with concomitant
increase of free amino acids and soluble carbohydrate both in leachates from seed and seed kernels and activity
of amylase enzyme in Mimosa pudica seeds pretreated with extracts and leachates of Lantana camera.
