Abstract
This study is a study that examines the gender of female and male through pictures in Japanese
textbooks used in Indonesia at the upper secondary level. Based on picture analysis, this study found very
significant differences between females and males in the Marugoto and Nihongo Kira-Kira textbooks. Female
has long hair (22.86% and 24.65%),short hairless shoulder length (43.26% and 34.88%) and tied hair (33.88%
and 40.47%). It is very different from a male's hair that is entirely short hair (100%).
Significant differences also appear in the way they dress. In the Marugoto and Nihongo Kira-Kira, femaleswear
neutral colors (29.24% and 47.71%) and bright color (70,76% and 52,29%). Male wear neutral color (49.30%
and 70%) and bright color (50,70% and 30%). Based on the percentage above, it can be concluded that females
are dominated by short hair or tied hair while clothes are dominated by bright colors. Males are dominated by
short hair and neutral colors.
