WORD CLASS TYPES IN SIMILE LANGUAGE STYLES USED IN THE SIBELERASLANíS KHADIJAH: A STYLISTIC OVERVIEW

Abstract
A stylistic analysis was conducted on the SibelEraslan‚Äüsnovel, Khadijah: When the Secret of
Mim Exposed, to study the use of word class types in simile language styles in the novel. The research was
carried out as a descriptive qualitative research with the aim to describe the forms of usage of the similes based
on the lexical choices most often used by the author and the benefits of using those language styles. The data
used in the study were the lingual units in the novel contained the unique lexical choices in the simile language
style. Data were collected using the method of note-taking and analyzed descriptively that consisted of three
activities that occur simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The
results of this study show that there are 11 forms of word class types in the simile language styles based on
lexical choices found in the novel, namely: (1) noun; (2) verbs; (3) adjectives; (4) pronominal; (5) numeralia;
(6) integorative; (7) demonstrative; (8) prepositions; (9) articles; (10) conjunctions and (11) interjection. The
results of the analysis indicate that the author is able to highlight the unique selection and the use of specific
vocabulary words. Through the style of similes used in the novel, the writer can successfully give a description
to the reader about the historical story of KhadijahbintiKhuwailid, a Moslem woman figure behind Prophet of
Muhammad who is very influential in the world.
