RELIABILITY EVALUATION OF GRID CONNECTED PV INVERTER CONSIDERING PANEL DEGRADATION RATE AND OVERSIZING AT INDIAN LOCATION

Abstract
The usage of renewable energy is growing significantly every day to reduce the effects of climate change and global warming. In the last decade, a remarkable amount of electricity has been produced from renewable energy sources. Among the renewable energy potential PV energy has enormous electricity growth. In recent years, many PV systems are installed for both grid connected and standalone applications. Nevertheless, reliability performance is a major concern. PV inverter is termed as the most unreliable component in the entire PV system. In contrast, power electronic switches are the critical components of PV inverter. This paper evaluates the reliability performance of a single-phase grid connected PV inverter. A test case of 3-kW grid connected PV system with real time yearly mission profile at Indian location is considered and implemented in PLECS. The impact of panel degradation rate and oversizing of panel on PV inverter are presented. The results reveal that panel degradation rate and oversizing of panel considerably deviates the reliability performance of PV inverter especially, at hot climatic locations (e.g., India).
