Abstract
The Orang Asli community is one of the natives in Malaysia that has its own customs and culture
as other ethnics. In fact, Orang Asli is often seen as a backward community in terms of achievement especially in
the economy. In Malaysia, the Orang Asli community is one of the target groups to be organized into the Malay
community as a step to ensure that they are not left behind in the current development. For that purpose, one of
the efforts made is by preaching them to re-establish their identity by changing their trust in Tawhid (Islamic
belief) but maintaining the existing practices and customs in the event of non-Muslims. However, general
perception saw that the Orang Asli community tried assimilating by giving the Malay identity to bring them into
development. This study seeks to see whether integration can be accepted by the Orang Asli community. This
study was done on the Semai tribe in Ulu Jelai, Pahang who converted to Islam. The objective of this study is to
identify the level of integration among Orang Asli with Malay and to identify their level of acceptance of the
Malay identity. The methodology used is by distributing a total of 60 questionnaires. The data obtained through
questionnaires were analysed by using the Statistical Package for The Social Sciences (SPSS), method 22.
Descriptive statistics in frequency, per cent and mean are used. The results showed that the integration level of
the Orang Asli with Malay ethnic group is just moderate. More than 50 per cent of the respondents were also
unable to accept Malay identity as a part of their identity after embracing Islam.

Key words: Orang Asli, Pos Pantos, race integration, tribe
