COLLABORATIVE CORRELATION CODING ASSISTED ROUTING ALGORITHM (C3RA) FOR WMSNS

Abstract
In Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs), simultaneous achievement of network
energy minimization and Quality of Service is a crucial task. The main reason behind this problem is huge
redundant data due to the dense deployed camera sensor nodes. In a densely deployed WMSN, the visual
information acquired throgh the camera sensor nodes has correlation. Removal of such correlated redundant
results in a great reduction in the energy consumption at the risk of Quality of Service. To attain energy efficient
Quality of Service in WMSuNs, this paper proposes a Collaborative Correlation Coding Assisted Routing
Algorithm (C3RA). First, an intra-image coding is accomplished based on correlation properties of an image to
reduce the frame count at source node. Then the source node searches for next-hop neighbor node which is
nearer to Base station or sink to perform inter-image coding and the selection is done based on the energy gain.
Furthermore, a novel clustering mechanism is also proposed to reduce the burden at next-hop node searching
process. The performance of C3RA is evaluated in terms of both network assisted performance metrics such as
Energy consumption and delay and image assisted performance metrics such as Peak Signal to Noise Ratio
(PSNR) and delay. Results show that the performance of proposed approach has gained an outstanding
performance than the state-of-art methods.
