DIMENSIONS OF WORKPLACE SPIRTUALITY AND ORGANIZATIONAL CITZENSHIP BEHAVIOUR WITH THE MEDIATING ROLE OF JOB SATISFACTION

Abstract
The world has become a global village and it is easier to avail job opportunities existing in your surroundings. The workplace has become a family oriented domain if it is providing support to their employees. A common problem prevailing in every other university is to retain their teachers which is highly correlated with teacher‟s job satisfaction. This paper aims to study Petchsawang and Duchon (2009) four dimensions of workplace spirituality (compassion, meaningful work, mindfulness and transcendence) on organizational citizenship behaviour. Finally, job satisfaction is also studied as a mediating variable between workplace spirituality dimensions and organization citizenship behaviour. A cross-section research was conducted on 574 employees working in universities of Karachi, Pakistan. The data is analyzed by using structural equation modelling. The research results indicate that there is a positive relationship between various dimensions of workplace spirituality (compassion, mindfulness, and Transcendence) and job satisfaction followed by organizational citizenship behaviour except one dimension i.e. meaningful work was found insignificant. In addition, job satisfaction demonstrated full mediation between two dimensions of workplace spirituality such as compassion; mindfulness on organizational citizenship behaviour and partial mediation was observed among meaningful work and transcendence. In conclusion, this study contributes unique knowledge to the current body of literature that connects workplace spirituality dimensions with job satisfaction, as well as the organizational citizenship behaviour among university faculty members in Pakistan. The dimensions of Workplace spirituality must be part of organizational goals and policies in order to ensure wellbeing of the employees, community and society.
