IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON SLUM SINGLE ELDERS: AN ENQUIRY

Abstract
Old age is a closing stage of human life span. It is identified with different terminologies like seniors, senior citizens, elderly and older adults. At present the existing ongoing epidemic outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has universally affected 213 countries and territories with more than 2.5 million deep-rooted cases plus thousands of casualties. As per outbreak pandemic created the elder people were isolated for various reasons like sudden death of life partner, children‟s feel burden, children employment purpose send out side of the native place and elder live in separately. Compare to urban, the slum people are facing many problems hence the researcher adopted slum single elders‟ problems in Bangalore municipality with objectives of demographic profile, socio economic and health related problems of the selected slum. The researcher purposively selected Bangalore municipality, the municipality contain 21 wards with 26 slums the researcher selected only 10 wards through sampling method among them the researcher found 73 respondents, census method was adopted the data collection Interview schedule used to collect data from the respondents. The major findings of the study as: 68.3% of the respondents belong to between 65 to 75 years, 95% of the respondents were married, 56.7 % of the respondents were SC, 60% of the respondents were illiterate, 55% of the respondents are SCs, 55% of the respondents were agricultural daily wages, 45% of the respondents monthly income Rs.2001-3000,56.7 % of the respondents having own house,86.7% of the respondents house constructed in tiled, 98.3% of the respondents having saving habits,58.3% of the respondents children house faraway for the elders house,86.7% of the respondents not willing to send their children.
