CMS GROUPING PROCESS ON BOTTLENECK PARTS AND MACHINES ISSUES: A REVIEW

Abstract
Cellular Manufacturing Systems (CMS) is an alternative manufacturing system that utilized the Group Technology (GT) manufacturing principle to achieve manufacturing efficiencies and benefits. The grouping of part and machine families and the handling of bottleneck parts and machines are the two prominent steps in CMS implementation. The purpose of this research is to conduct a state-of-the-art review on grouping methods with the best approach of handling the bottleneck issues in CMS. The review is conducted by reviewing selected literature that is commonly cited spanning from the years 1972 to 2019. The outcomes of this research are aimed at providing gaps in the knowledge base of CMS' latest grouping methodologies development especially on best handling of the bottleneck issues. It also aims to instigate further or future research in improving or deriving the best grouping methods and best on the handling of the bottleneck's problems.
