Abstract
Background and Aim: Removable partial denture is one of the frequently performed prosthodontic procedures in routine clinical practices. The ultimate aim of RPD is to rehabilitate esthetics, functions and phonetics. In this paper, researchers have aimed to evaluate the relative awareness and knowledge about RPD in Kennedy class I situations. Materials & Methods: The study was performed in the department of Prosthodontics of the institute. Authors studied total 50 patients of both the genders. For evaluation of real-time knowledge and awareness, authors used a pre formed set of questions having 7 queries associated to removable partial denture. The responses those generated from the questionnaire exercise were recorded and tabulated to estimate results. Statistical Analysis & Results: Statistical analysis was attempted by statistical software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 21.0. The resultant data was subjected to appropriate statistical tests. This was done to obtain p values, mean, standard deviation, standard error and 95% CI. P ‚ȧ 0.05 was kept as statistically significant. Total 20 females and 30 male patients were included in the study. 72% patients were unaware about removable partial denture therapy. Only 12% patients had talked with their relative/friends about RPD. 66% patients think that it is very difficult to sustain in the mouth due to its removable nature. 42% patients know that missing teeth can be replaced by fixed prosthesis too. 81% patients believed that it is a superb option for those who canít afford fixed treatment options like Implants, etc. Conclusion: While performing the study, authors have come across many intermingling factors pertaining to RPD satisfaction. However, within the limitations of the study authors stated that knowledge and awareness about RPD (Kennedy class I situations) was at fair levels in the studied populace. It is further advisable to conduct regular awareness programs and other related events so as to enhance overall awareness and knowledge about RPD.
