EFFECT OF STEEL CHEQUERED PLATE ON DEFLECTION BEHAVIOUR OF A COMPOSITE BEAM

Abstract
Composite Member consist of two or more dissimilar materials joined together to act as a unit to increase its strength. In this project the deflection behaviour of RCC beam is studied by providing Steel Chequered plates. Initially, the design of singly reinforced beam using M20 concrete with a central point load is done. Galvanized Steel Chequered Plates are welded with steel reinforcements along with shear connectors. Gradually increased central point is applied on the beam and corresponding deflections are measured. To compare the beams, a deflection of about 10mm is fixed as a maximum. This maximum value is reached at 40 kN, 255 kN and 343 kN for Conventional RCC beam, RCC beam with Steel plates on tension zone alone and on both zones respectively. From the results, it is concluded that providing Chequered Steel plate on tension zone is enough to achieve both increase in load carrying capacity and economical construction.
