PERFORMANCE OF WOMEN OWNED ENTERPRISES IN NORTH EAST INDIA: A LOGISTIC REGRESSION APPROACH

Abstract
The industrialization is one of the biggest challenges of north east India and the role of women entrepreneurs becomes very important in promoting entrepreneurship in the region. The social and economic empowerment of women can be seen in North Eastern India. As the women shoulders with men in each and every activity, thus the women of north eastern states are independent and confident for venturing economic opportunities. The present study analyses the performance of women entrepreneurs in North East India. The present research surveyed women entrepreneurs of Shillong and Gangtok and attempt has been made to compare the performance of female owned enterprises of both the cities. The women entrepreneurs are selected on the basis of quota sampling techniques for the study. To understand the magnitude of relationship between performances with the independent variables an ordered regression has been applied. The study found that the experience of running enterprises helps in bringing good performance. The training is very important aspect of entrepreneurship; the lack of trained entrepreneurs can also lead to low performance of the business in the region. Hence the study reflected that the years of existence of business as well as trained entrepreneurs can increase the chances of having better business performance in the region.
