A ROBUST PATIENT AUTHENTICATION SCHEME FOR TELECARE MEDICINE INFORMATION SYSTEMS (TMIS) AGAINST SMART CARD SECURITY BREACH

Abstract
A Telecare Medical Information System (TMIS) enables doctors and physicians at a medical center to provide remote care via Internet to the registered patients at any place. Considering the privacy of the patients, medical data, secure and authenticated access to the medical data located at the medical servers are required. Recently, numerous states of the art authentication schemes are proposed in the literature to increase security of the Telecare Medical Information System (TMIS). However, various forms of attacks and inefficiencies render these schemes inappropriate for this scenario. This paper presents a comprehensive survey and taxonomy of these authentication schemes. Moreover, it also proposes one-way hash function based smart card authentication scheme for TMIS. A secure authentication scheme must achieve both mutual authentication and session key establishment. The logical analysis is a useful model to prove the validity of authentication schemes. This paper uses BAN logic to demonstrate the execution of the proposed scheme. Additionally, it also compares the proposed scheme with the other existing schemes on the basis of potential attacks and computation cost.
