DEGRADATION OF PAINTS AND ITS MICROBIAL EFFECT ON HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

Abstract
Domestic and industrial purposes are the two significant motives behind all paints. It is the fundamental wellspring of Volatile organic compounds which can have an environmental impact in the short or longer - term, which additionally prompts health complications like injury to the nerves and kidneys. Paint is being used to ensure the surface from erosion, oxidation, and discolouration to where it have been applied. Ozone is produced in the surroundings when nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and VOCs interact within the sight of daylight these chemicals cause respiratory problems and are carcinogenic. Owing to weathering and erosion, the painted layers sustain disruption or discolouration which promote the growth and function of biological entities. Multiple types of microbes such as microscopic bacteria, fungal growth, algal growth and protozoans are actively engaged throughout the degradation process. Temperature is a significant environmental component that promote paint degradation. Microorganisms and its activities can degrade water-based paints and it may also decrease paint shelf-life and the durability of the house. The presence of various polymer compounds used in paint manufacturing makes it resistant to degradation and continues to being a potential risk to nature. There are several microorganisms able to grow on painted surfaces. As per the so many previous research it's often found that certain bacteria have persistent growth, originally belonged to the bacillus and pseudomonas as well as many other organisms identified mostly from species Penicillium sp., Aspergillus sp. and Cladosporium.
