A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON THE DIAGNOSTIC METHODS FOR SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITY AMONG THE CHILDREN OF RURAL TAMILNADU, INDIA

Abstract
Children are the potential wealth of any nation, as the prospect of the country depends on the intellectual ability of the educated children. Reports from many organizations state that a 5 to 10% of the child population suffers from specific learning disability (SLD), due to which, the children have difficulty in processing information presented to them in different forms, such as pictures, letters and numbers. This affects their academic performance significantly and overall confidence to face life. This paper investigates the various diagnosis methods carried out to identify the SLD among the primary school children, with a special focus to Indian children. It is noted from the study that, the number of children suffering from SLD is increasing at a faster rate, but, the awareness on SLD among parents and teachers is considerably less.
