GENDER DIVERSITY IN WORKPLACE A STUDY IN VEDANTA LTD., ODISHA

Abstract
Globally, gender diversity in the workplace has been quite well-accepted today. Research
evidences show that the demographic mix of a workforce significantly impacts group dynamics and, thus,
determines organizations outcome. Studies reveal that improving the gender ratio leads to generating increased
sales from innovative products and services. This has led more and more companies to come up with policies and
strategies for bridging gender gap in their workplaces. The Indian companies are also keen to improve the gender
imbalances as part of their corporate strategy.
Vedanta Ltd is a global metals and mining conglomerate having its aluminium plants at Lanjigarh & Jharsuguda in
Odisha. This paper is an attempt to peep into the extent of gender diversity in Vedanta Ltd, Odisha by analyzing
workforce data for the period 2015-20; and delve into the initiatives and strategy for promoting gender diversity.
The study reveals notable gender gap in different positions in Vedanta Ltd., which calls for affirmative actions by
the top management for promoting gender diversity.
