Abstract
In March 2020, the World Health Organization stated that there was a high risk of COVID-19
spreading all around the world. This resulted to the sudden closure of all the educational institutes in India.
Face-to-face teaching-learning is now considered as a specific threat from which the communities must be
protected and emergency online teaching is supposed as the security measure to protect the communities. An
online survey was conducted to explore the effectiveness of online teaching during pandemic COVID-19 from the
perspective of teaching professionals in India. A questionnaire, prepared on Google forms, is used. Questions
were framed to know the opinions of the respondents on different aspects of online teaching. At the end of the
questionnaire, the respondents were supposed to give their feedback/suggestions for improvement of online
teaching in India. Effectiveness of online teaching, students‟ participation and indicators of quality were three
categories that emerged from the analysis of data. Effective teacher online facilitates, connects, leads and works in
synchrony with students to support indicators of quality such as students‟ interest, participation and their
improvement over a time. Existing study offers effective teaching strategies for online education keeping the
context of our country in consideration; however, there may be some differences in the application of these
strategies and teachers‟ perceptions of associated learning outcomes. Teaching professionals need to be more
competent in their roles and possess the skills necessary to positively impact students‟ achievements. This paper
focuses on the ways of making online teaching more effective in India

Key words: COVID-19, pandemic, online teaching, effectiveness, teaching professionals
