A SURVEY ON EDGE COMPUTING IN SMART CITIES AND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

Abstract
In recent years, Edge Computing has achieved tremendous growth of popularity, especially in
smart environments. This technology helps to enhance the future technologies of cloud computing services to
end-users, 5G, IoT and improved reality. The edge computing framework provides mobility, low latency
support, low delay and location awareness. The latest development of edge computing involves mobile edge
computing which enhances mobile distribution by bringing the cloud services and user in near proximity by
influencing the edge resources in the network. In this survey, the edge computing challenges have been
identified and analyzed in detail. The large-scale distribution of data processing in smart cities and smart health
care system has been considered in this review. In smart cities, privacy, energy consumption, QoS requirement,
optimization, execution delay has been the main challenges and it observed and evaluated. For the smart health
care system, the patient health records are securely managing, storing and processing in edge, monitoring
emergency notification has been the challenging task for edge computing. The comparative analysis of edge
computing has been tabulated here based on the reviews of challenges. The suggestions for future work also
advised and exhibited. The future directions include enhancing the resource allocation, optimization of
scheduling, using security measures, reducing computational overheads have been discussed. Hence, this survey
is considered as a guideline for the future edge computing developers to overcome the existing challenges
discussed above. The enhancement of resource allocation, measures were taken against threats, security and
privacy improvisation have been mainly focused in future directions.
