BRAIN TUMOR EXTRACTION USING IMAGE PROCESSING: A REVIEW

Abstract
The brain is the most important part of central nervous system. Brain tumor is defined as the abnormal mass
of tissues in which cells grow and multiply uncontrollably. The main task of the doctors is to detect the tumor which is
time consuming. Medical imaging thus, has become highly demanding. There are various methodologies to extract the
tumor region using image processing technique. This paper is a survey of various algorithms that have been applied on
scanned images of brain. The paper includes different filtering techniques for noise reduction and segmentation techniques
to differentiate the defected area in the scanned brain image. The enhancement of scanned image of brain helps the
surgeons to study and diagnose the tumor efficiently with higher accuracy.

Key words: Feature extraction, gray scale, image enhancement, image filtering, image segmentation, morphological operation.
