Critical Thinking in Information Literacy for Life Skills Development in Islamic Education in State Islamic High Schools in Banyumas Indonesia

Abstract
This study was aimed at describing literacy culture in Islamic Education. Information literacy is the key of knowledge mastery, thinking ability, as well as sensitivity to get into all aspects of life. It is the practice of social relation dealing with knowledge, language, and culture. Without literacy, people will get difficulties in developing their knowledge. This qualitative research took place in State Islamic Senior High Schools (MAN, which stands for Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. This location setting was chosen with the consideration that Islamic high schools in Banyumas had applied and developed various kinds of literacy, including digital literacy. This study used observations, interviews, and documentations for data collection and was analyzed with interactive analysis, including data collection, data recuction, and verification. Literacy movement in State Islamic High Schools in Banyumas Regency had been culturally practiced, more especially after the issue of School Literacy Movement Policy. Reading and writing movement as the early literacy practice have been addressed to improve language skills. Seen from its level, literacy movement in State Islamic High Schools in Banyumas Regency has achieved the level of language skills for social interest. Furthermore, it is continuing to be increased to the wider aspects, i.e. to access knowledge and support its transformation as a life skills by promoting critical thinking and as a reflection to cultural appreciation. Information literation in Banyumas Regency is implemented through these stages: habituation, intere st building, and learning process. In Islamic Education (PAI), as a subject implementing literacy program, students have to read the qauliyan and qauniyah verses, and continue to critically analyze the qauliyah verses. These literacy practices are done daily, weekly, monthly, and every semester. This movement has been stated as one of ways to improve students’ quality and life skills so that they can actualize themselves in building meaningful social life.
